Large fines or prison sentences threaten those who ignore the rules to prevent the spread of coronavirus

Citizens who will not comply with preventive measures or control of coronavirus will be administratively or even criminally liable. Today the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova adopted in two readings by the votes of 55 deputies the corresponding amendments to the Code of Offenses and to the Criminal Code.

Thus, persons who do not observe preventive measures or measures to combat epidemic diseases and cause their spread will be punished with a fine of up to 1,000 conventional units (up to 50,000 lei) or imprisonment up to three years. The same acts that entailed grave consequences or the death of a person will be punishable by deprivation of liberty for a term of up to seven years.

The bill also provides for the inclusion of a new article in the Code of Offenses - “Non-compliance with preventive measures and measures to prevent and combat epidemiological diseases”. For its violation, a fine will be imposed on an individual in the amount of from 22,500 lei to 25,000 lei, and on a legal entity - a fine in the amount of 50,000 lei to 75,000 lei, reports

At the same time, for deliberate false or incomplete presentation of data or for refusing to provide the data necessary to fill out the epidemiological form, a fine of 450 to 500 conventional units will be imposed.
