Another criminal case initiated against ex-premier Filat
The Prosecutor's Office for Combating Corruption initiated another criminal case against former Prime Minister Vladimir Filat, who was sentenced to 9 years in prison for corruption and involvement in the withdrawal of the billion from the banking system of Moldova.
Prosecutors do not disclose details of the new criminal case. However, Filat, who, according to the court's decision, must serve his sentence in penitentiary institution No. 2, which is in Lipcani, remains in the Chisinau detention facility No. 13, since his transportation to court sessions from the Lipcani prison would significantly affect the allocated budget.
"He appears in a new criminal case. You understand that the penitentiary institution in Lipcani is very far to systematically carry him at the request of the criminal investigation bodies. This is a big expense. In penitentiary institution No. 13 there is a sector that allows maintaining such a category of persons. We keep him here, so as not to make additional transportation costs," they told journalists from zdg.md in the Department of penitentiary institutions.
