Batryncha: "Moldovans in Ukraine are aggressively assimilated"
Ukraine forcibly assimilates ethnic groups that have long lived on its territory. Verkhovna Rada adopted a law on education, which violates the fundamental rights of national minorities, including the right to learn in their native language, MP Vlad Batryncha at the session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
"Ukraine is a multinational and multicultural state. About 10 million citizens of this state belong to dozens of ethnic groups and nationalities. Thanks to the new law on education, their right to education in their native language and, as a consequence, the right to preserve and develop their culture is violated. According to European conventions, language is an important component of collective identity," the socialist said.
At the same time, Batryncha reminded that in Chernivtsi and Odessa there are more than 250 thousand Moldovans, noting that these people also represent the indigenous population of Ukraine with hundreds of years of history on this earth, are peaceful citizens and do not create problems that bring any instability. And, despite the fact that the Ukrainian authorities call the process of violent assimilation integration into Ukrainian society, the Party of Socialists calls the process launched by Ukraine xenophobia and inciting ethnic hatred.
"Today Moldovans in Ukraine are still subject to aggressive assimilation. The Ukrainian state violates their natural right to identity and cultural development, language and education," the deputy concluded.
