Ion Chicu: Moldova and Ukraine should have an open and active dialogue


Prime Minister Ion Chicu held a bilateral meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart, Alexei Goncharuk. During the discussions, the Prime Minister emphasized the openness of the government to strengthen partnerships with the neighboring country in regional security, protecting environment of the Dniester River basin, energy and transport sectors.

According to moldpres.md with reference to the government’s press relations and protocol department, the parties also discussed intensification of cooperation at the state border. In particular, Chicu confirmed the initiative to open two more joint checkpoints on the Moldovan-Ukrainian border on the Transnistrian section.

The development and strengthening of partnerships with Ukraine is one of priorities of the Moldovan government. I want to confirm our readiness for an open and active intergovernmental dialogue. I am sure that by joint efforts we will be able to develop the positive dynamics of our bilateral cooperation,” said Ion Chicu.

In turn, the head of the Ukrainian government emphasized importance of enhancing mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation, confirming Kiev’s openness in advancing a dynamic dialogue in the areas of common interest.
