Chisinau hosts a Regional Cybersecurity Forum

Prime Minister Ion Chicu attended the opening of the 7th Moldova Cyber Week Regional Cybersecurity Forum. The event was organized under the auspices of the government by the Information Technology and Cybersecurity Service, MOLDPRES reports with reference to the Government Office of Press Relations and Protocol.

The Prime Minister appreciated the importance of the event, as the number of Internet users is growing rapidly, today there are already more than four billion of them. In this regard, cyber attacks on government infrastructure and information leaks pose a real threat to national stability and security both in socio-economic and political terms.

A single country does not have resources and tools necessary to ensure cybersecurity. Therefore, we must constantly strengthen inter-institutional, regional and, of course, international cooperation. Protection of cyberspace can be effectively achieved through cooperation between the government of the Republic of Moldova and the private sector, which often owns and manages a significant part of the infrastructure; civil society and academia,” said the Prime Minister.

At the same time, Ion Chicu clarified that, given the speed of the technological progress, preventive measures should be constantly updated in order to keep up with new challenges and risks. It is necessary to intensify cooperation between all involved structures, including law enforcement agencies, industry, NGOs and research institutes in order to reduce the risk to cybersecurity.
