Igor Dodon met with the President of Turkmenistan

Igor Dodon arrived in Ashgabat on a working visit to participate in the Council of CIS Heads of State. The first meeting was held with the President of the Republic of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

Igor Dodon emphasized the importance of the conversation in the context of strengthening bilateral relations. He recalled that the previous meeting with the President of Turkmenistan was held in September 2017 at the opening of the Fifth Asian Games, and the official visit of the President of the Republic of Moldova to Ashgabat took place in April 2015.

I noticed that the political dialogue between the two states is developing more dynamically than trade and economic relations, which need additional stimulation and do not correspond to its real potential. We need to resume the work of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, which had not been convened for more than four years. At the same time, there is mutual interest in holding business forums, since the Turkmen side is ready to increase the import of the Moldovan agricultural products and the export of natural gas to the Republic of Moldova”, Igor Dodon wrote on his page on the social network.

The Head of State also expressed gratitude to the Turkmen partners for implementation of a number of social and humanitarian projects in the Republic of Moldova, in particular, in the Gagauz autonomy. At the end of the meeting, Igor Dodon praised Turkmenistan’s foreign policy strategy based on the principle of permanent neutrality, recognized in December 1995 at the level of the UN General Assembly.
