Commentary of the Russian Foreign Ministry on the US intervention in the pre-election situation in Moldova
Intervention in the internal affairs of foreign countries has long been the corporate identity of the Washington’s foreign policy. Today, this is particularly evident in the example of Venezuela, where the United States is essentially trying to carry out a coup d'état. From the same series is occupation of part of Syria territory after unsuccessful attempts to eliminate the legitimate government in Damascus. In this series is the manual control of the Kiev nationalist regime. A similar fate seems to be prepared for Moldova. This is stated in the comments of the Information and Press Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.
“This impression is created from the behavior of the US Ambassador to Chisinau, D. Hogan. Immediately after taking office last fall, he began to participate actively in the Moldovan internal processes. Publicly supports some politicians against others, distributes recommendations on holding parliamentary elections. Americans, in their striving to predetermine the result of the vote, intend to evaluate democracy by who wins. If the winner does not suit Washington, Moldovans are threatened with breaking ties with the West and even repeating the Ukrainian Maidan.
The non-diplomatic manners of the American Ambassador clearly reflect the habits of the United States not to bother with the concept of sovereignty and, combining threats with promises, to impose their will. It would be a pity if Moldova becomes another field for such irresponsible experiments that destroyed Iraq and Libya, plunged Syria and Ukraine into the abyss of bloody conflicts.
We are confident that the people of Moldova will be able to determine independently their preferences for the upcoming parliamentary elections on February 24 without advice from Washington, which, as the sad international experience of the last decades shows, is guided solely by its own geopolitical ambitions, ignoring the national interests of other countries,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a commentary.
